"Unlocked Doors"-The People's Key CD Celebration Party at The Stage at KDHX

  • The Stage at KDHX 3524 Washington Boulevard St. Louis, MO, 63103 United States (map)

The People’s Key is best known for taking popular music from many different genres and arranging it into a classic organ jazz sound. Having performed several times at The Stage at KDHX you may best know them for their interpretations of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of The Moon”, The Beatles’ “Abbey Road” or jazz Jimi Hendrix. For the first time since the group’s inception in 2013 the band is set to release an original album “Unlocked Doors”, featuring compositions primarily by group organist Ryan Marquez and guitarist Matt Rowland.

“Unlocked Doors” will be the 5th studio release by the group’s founding membership which includes Charlie Cerpa on saxophone and Mike Murano on drums to round out the ensemble. Their catalog includes jazz covers from Michael Jackson, Jay-Z, Radiohead, The Beatles, Bruno Mars and a whole lot more. For a full discography check out:

Fresh on the heels of their 4th release in April of ’18 entitled “Time of the Season”, which features popular covers from the sounds of the 60/70’s including artists like Simon/Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Zombies, Pink Floyd and more, the group has been brewing up original content influenced by their soul/jazz rootssince inceptionand are now primed to infuse new sounds from the voices of their eclectic membership.

“One thing that’s really cool about The People’s Key is that it’s made up of individuals who are all highly creative,” says Marquez (organ). “Being that we’ve cultivated our sound here in the Midwest, a region historically known for being a melting pot, we all have had the opportunity to playa wide range of styles from jazz/fusion to hip hop all the way to blue grass and folk. The record is reflective of our individual voices and love for manystyles coming together as one voice in a funky/jazzyformat.”

Featuring 11 compositions, the album title alludes to stepping beyond the threshold of the cover format the group has typically displayed in the pastinto new boundless territory. While the group will still continue to produce themed shows featuring jazz cover music they’ve made a name on, even featuringsomeof their fan favorites at the show, this record marks their official beginning of sharing their own original sound with their audience.
